Stockholm – Beauty on the islands - 4 days

Visit one of Europe's most beautiful capitals! Its location on fourteen islands, the many magnificent buildings, and the narrow, cobblestone streets of the old town add to the charm of this cosmopolitan metropolis. Off the coast, you'll find a picturesque archipelago of around 24,000 skerries.

Stockholm also offers a rich cultural diversity and more than 70 museums! Discover typically Swedish treasures at the Skansen open-air museum – from historic farms to animals from the north, like elks. Perhaps you'll also visit the Vasa Museum? The famous warship Vasa, beautifully decorated with carvings, sank in Stockholm harbor on its maiden voyage in 1628!

Day 1: Arrival in Stockholm
Arrival in Stockholm according to your own itinerary. The Swedish capital is the largest city in Scandinavia and lies at the mouth of Lake Mälaren in the Baltic Sea, spread over fourteen islands. Off the coast are around 24,000 larger and smaller archipelago islands - the largest archipelago belt in Sweden. This marvellous location and the numerous magnificent buildings make Stockholm one of the most beautiful capital cities in Europe.

Day 2: Discover Stockholm - F
Today you will On a guided city tour, you will get to know many attractions Stockholm. These include, among others, the old city centre Gamla Stan, the City Hall and the Royal Palace, which is one of the most important baroque buildings in Northern Europe (admission optional). There are also churches worth seeing, aristocratic palaces and great museums. Enjoy a typical Swedish coffee break with a Kanelbuller (cinnamon bun) as part of the city tour. Afterwards, Skansen, Sweden's largest open-air museum, is on the programme. It displays around 150 historical buildings from all over Sweden, as well as moose, bears and other northern animals.

Day 3: Stockholm - F
Today you have the opportunity to explore more sights of Stockholm. Visit Drottningholm Palace, the residence of the Swedish royal family (optional). The magnificent building is located around 10 kilometres west of Stockholm on the island of Lovön in Lake Mälaren and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside, it houses sculptures and paintings by Swedish court artists. The impressive castle theatre from 1766 is still in its original state. In the extensive castle park, you can marvel at fountains, sculptures and the pleasure palace Kina Slott (optional). In the afternoon, you can discover the Vasa Museum (optional). This is one of the most popular attractions in Stockholm and indeed the whole of Sweden. In a huge hall, seven levels offer magnificent views of the imposing warship decorated with carvings. The Swedish King Gustav Adolf had too many large-calibre cannons installed on the upper deck - a mistake with serious consequences! The ship sank in Stockholm harbour on its maiden voyage in 1628. It was only salvaged over 300 years later. It was then restored and underwent several years of conservation work. You can learn exciting facts about the ship and the conservation process from a film that is shown in the museum (also in German).

Day 4: Journey home - F
Hej – that's how you say hello and goodbye in Sweden. Today, unfortunately, it's time to say goodbye. But perhaps it won't be your last trip to Stockholm. Transfer to Arlanda Airport and return home according to your own itinerary.

If you are in Stockholm at the beginning of June, the Smaka Good Food Festival is well worth a visit. At this major event in the Kungsträdsgarden city park, you can sample delicious food at the many food stalls and food trucks - from traditional Swedish to exotic dishes. There is also live music and various events.

Stockholm takes on a romantic appearance in spring, when the numerous cherry trees bloom, aglow in pink and white (usually from late March to late April). In Kungsträdgården Park, with its over 60 cherry trees, "Cherry Blossom Day" takes place on April 28th – a festival celebrating Japanese culture. It features traditional Japanese music, puppet shows, dance performances, and stalls selling Japanese delicacies and handicrafts.
